Details of Experience:
When Ruben H. was admitted to Glengariff Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center from South Shore University Hospital on September 9, 2025, he was unable to ambulate and deemed medically unsafe for all transfers. Due to the severity of his fracture, weakness, and respiratory issues, Ruben was fully dependent for all Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). He required complete assistance with every aspect of care, from cutting his food to personal grooming tasks such as brushing his teeth.

Prior to his injury, Ruben had been living independently at home. His sudden loss of mobility and independence made rehabilitation a critical component of his recovery. The interdisciplinary team at Glengariff, including physical, occupational, and speech therapy, nursing, and medical staff, developed a comprehensive, patient-centered rehabilitation plan focused on restoring his strength, mobility, functional independence, and breathing.

During his stay, Ruben worked diligently with the committed therapy disciplines and made meaningful progress. Under the guidance of the rehabilitation team, he continued to excel in physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Through consistent, targeted interventions and his strong work ethic, Ruben achieved significant functional gains.

By the time of his discharge on December 18, 2025, Ruben was able to ambulate up to 200 feet independently, perform all ALDs independently, and breathe without assistance, an impressive accomplishment considering his initial dependence on assistance. Thanks to his progress and restored independence, Ruben was able to safely return home and resume his independent life.

Patient and Family Feedback:
“The entire care team was exceptional—compassionate, attentive, and highly professional. Every obstacle was carefully managed, and my father was consistently supported in working toward his daily living goals. Our family was truly impressed by the dedication of the concierge staff, nurses, CNAs, physicians, respiratory specialists, and physical, occupational, and speech therapists.”

We wish Ruben continued success as he returns to an active lifestyle. Thank you for choosing Glengariff for your rehabilitation journey.
