Details of experience:
Mr. William Catacosinos, a 66-year-old male, experienced a life-altering event when he fell at home, resulting in a fractured hip. He was promptly admitted to the hospital, where orthopedic evaluation confirmed the need for hip replacement surgery. Following the surgery, Mr. Catacosinos was transferred to Glengariff Rehabilitation Center for comprehensive post-operative care. The rehabilitation team, led by physical therapist Jenina Lu-Cabahug, faced the challenge of helping Mr. Catacosinos regain mobility and independence, considering his initial inability to walk.
Initial Assessment: Upon arrival at the rehabilitation center, Mr. Catacosinos ‘s mobility was severely compromised. He could not bear weight on his affected leg, and the fear of falling hindered his willingness to engage in physical activities. Sarah conducted a thorough assessment, considering Mr. Catacosinos ‘s overall health, range of motion, pain levels, and psychological factors influencing his rehabilitation journey.
Rehabilitation Plan: Janina and her team developed a personalized rehabilitation plan for Mr. Catacosinos. The plan incorporated a combination of physical therapy exercises, occupational therapy to improve daily activities, and a gradual increase in weight-bearing exercises. The goal was to regain walking ability and enhance overall strength, balance, and confidence.
Throughout Mr. Catacosinos’ journey to recovery at the facility, every department prioritized ensuring his motivation and comfort. The medical team, including doctors and nurses, attended to his healthcare needs, while the recreation department provided a variety of activities to keep him engaged during moments away from rehabilitation or family visits. The concierge team went the extra mile by forwarding and addressing all his questions to the appropriate departments. Additionally, they took the time to discover his interests and hobbies, allowing for a meaningful connection based on their shared passion for cars.
Progress Monitoring: Regular assessments and progress tracking were essential components of the rehabilitation process. Jenina closely monitored Mr. Catacosinos ‘s gait, strength, and pain levels, adjusting the rehabilitation plan based on his evolving capabilities.
Outcome: Mr. Catacosinos achieved a remarkable transformation after four weeks of intensive rehabilitation. From being unable to walk, he progressed to walking independently, covering an impressive 7,000 steps daily. His improved mobility translated into enhanced independence and a significantly improved quality of life.
As Mr. Catacosinos was discharged, we wished him success and continued good health as his journey toward renewal progressed.
