Details of Experience:
When Rose S. was first admitted to Glengariff Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center from North Shore University Hospital on July 30, 2025, she was unable to ambulate and required a Hoyer/mechanical lift for all transfers. Due to the severity of her right femur fracture, Rose was fully dependent for all Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). She required complete assistance with every aspect of care, from cutting her food to personal grooming tasks such as combing her hair.
Prior to her injury, Rose had been living independently at home. Her sudden loss of mobility and independence made rehabilitation a critical component of her recovery. The interdisciplinary team at Glengariff, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, and medical staff, developed a comprehensive and patient-centered rehabilitation plan focused on restoring her strength, mobility, and functional independence.
During her initial 33-day stay, Rose worked diligently with the therapy team and made meaningful progress. Unfortunately, she required a return to the hospital; however, she remained highly motivated and eager to resume therapy. Rose returned to Glengariff on September 8, 2025, for an additional 47 days, demonstrating exceptional determination and commitment to her recovery.
Upon her return, Rose’s motivation intensified. Under the guidance of the rehabilitation team, including Janina, Director of Rehabilitation, she continued to excel in physical therapy. Through consistent, targeted interventions and her strong work ethic, Rose achieved significant functional gains.
By the time of her discharge on October 24, 2025, Rose was able to ambulate up to 150 feet using a walker, an impressive accomplishment considering her initial dependence on a mechanical lift. Thanks to her progress and restored independence, Rose was able to safely return home and resume her independent life.
